We just really love 00s movies

Movies in the 00s exists for one very simple reason: the 2000s gave us an enormous number of films we still genuinely enjoy going back to.

This was the decade when DVD collections took over living rooms, cinemas got bigger, midnight releases became events, franchises exploded and a whole new generation of movie stars, directors and characters arrived.

It was also a strange transition point. Physical media was still king, but digital filmmaking was accelerating. Superhero movies were being rebuilt. Horror was constantly reinventing itself. And some of the biggest films ever made were suddenly competing with cult movies people discovered on DVD months later.

This is not supposed to be an encyclopedia

You can already find release dates, cast lists and plot summaries in a thousand places online.

We are much more interested in going back to these films and asking the questions that actually make them fun to revisit.

Does it still hold up? What made it special? What has aged brilliantly? What has not? And why are we still talking about it all these years later?

Some of these movies are masterpieces. Some are completely ridiculous. Quite a few manage to be both.

One movie at a time

We are working through the decade one film at a time, from enormous blockbusters to cult favourites, forgotten gems and films that deserve another spin in the DVD player.

The aim is not simply to build a huge database of titles. We want every movie page to feel worth reading — a proper retrospective that gives you a reason to think about the film again.
